Personal Safety

At CmtyHelp, we trust that most of our users are respectful, considerate, and well-intentioned. However, to protect yourself and others, we strongly encourage everyone, especially minors and their guardians—to follow these safety guidelines, both online and offline.

Online Behavior

1. Protect Your Finances

  • Never send money through wire transfer, particularly to unfamiliar individuals or overseas.

  • If anyone requests money, even in an emergency situation, report it to us immediately.

  • Wire transfers are like sending cash: once sent, the transaction is irreversible and untraceable, and there’s no protection if the money is lost.

2. Protect Your Personal Information

  • Never share sensitive personal information such as your social security number, credit card or bank account details, or your home or work address with anyone you don’t know or haven’t met in person.

  • This is especially important for minors, as it is crucial to keep such information private to protect your safety and security.

3. Report Suspicious Behavior

Always report anyone who violates CmtyHelp’s Terms of Use, especially if they are engaging in unsafe or inappropriate behavior. This includes:

  • Minors using the platform without the express permission of their parent or legal guardian.

  • Harassing, threatening, or offensive messages.

  • Inappropriate behavior after meeting in person.

  • Fraudulent profiles or registration details.

  • Spam, excessive solicitation, or any illegal activity.

  • Any other violations of CmtyHelp’s Terms of Use that may put users, especially minors, at risk.

Offline Behavior

Meeting someone in person can be exciting, but it’s important to follow these extra precautions, especially if you are a minor or if you are a parent or guardian accompanying a minor.

1. Get to Know the Person Online First

  • For minors, it’s crucial to keep all communication within the platform until you feel comfortable and confident about the person.

  • Parents or guardians should also be actively involved in monitoring interactions.

  • Bad actors often try to move conversations away from the platform quickly, so it’s essential to be cautious.

  • Parents, always stay informed about who your child is interacting with online.

2. Always Meet in Public Spaces

  • Regardless of age, always prioritize your safety by choosing well-populated, public locations for your meetings, ensuring they are secure and frequently visited.

  • Never meet in private or remote locations, and never enter someone’s home or apartment unless you know them well and are with a responsible adult.

  • For minors, it’s always best to meet in a group or with a parent.

3. Notify Trusted Individuals of Your Plans

  • If you are a minor, always tell a parent, guardian, or trusted adult where you’re going, who you are meeting, and when you plan to return.

  • Keep your phone charged and accessible at all times for communication or in case of emergency.

4. Arrange Your Own Transportation

  • Whether you are a minor or an adult, always maintain control over your own transportation to and from a meeting.

  • This way, you can leave the meeting at any time if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

  • Parents or guardians should ensure that their children have the ability to leave a situation independently if necessary.

5. Stay Sober and Alert

  • Always stay sober and keep your judgment clear.

  • Alcohol or drugs can impair decision-making, making you more vulnerable to potential harm.

  • This is especially important for minors, who should avoid consuming alcohol or other substances at any time.

  • Be aware of the possibility that bad actors may try to manipulate or alter drinks with harmful substances.

Additional Considerations for Minors

Parental Supervision

  • Parents and guardians should play an active role in ensuring that their children’s interactions on CmtyHelp are safe.

  • Minors should only join under the supervision of a parent’s or guardian’s account, and all communications and activities should be closely monitored to protect against CSAE or any inappropriate behavior.

Privacy and Consent

  • Minors should not share private or identifying information without parental consent.

  • It’s essential to understand the risks of sharing information online, especially for those under the age of 18.

Stay Informed

  • Parents should regularly review the content their children are engaging with on CmtyHelp.

  • Minors should feel comfortable reporting any uncomfortable or suspicious interactions to a trusted adult or to CmtyHelp support.

By following these guidelines, we can create a safer and more secure experience for everyone in the CmtyHelp community. Your safety is our priority.
